I.P.
Ratings Explained
IP
rating stands quite literally for 'Ingress Protection'
An
IP (Ingress Protection) number is used to specify the environmental
protection of enclosures around electronic equipment, such as
light fittings. These ratings are determined by specific tests.
The IP (Ingress Protection) number is composed of two numbers,
the first referring to the protection against solid objects and
the second against liquids. The higher the number the better the
protection.
See
some examples to the right. Most of our products will indicate,
in its description, an IP rating. This is for guidance purposes
for you and your electrician. For example, a light required to
be installed within a swimming pool and constantly submerged would
require an IP rating of IP68. (see right) Please e-mail for further
advice.
